Award Ceremony for 2022 ALMA Laureate Eva Lindström

On Monday, 30 May, the picture book artist Eva Lindström will receive the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for 2022. The award diploma will be presented by HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. Sweden’s Minister for Culture, Jeanette Gustafsdotter, will give a speech to the laureate. The master of ceremonies is actor and television presenter Philomène Grandin and Sirqus Alfon gives us a music/circus crossover performance.

Members of the press are invited to cover the ceremony in person at the Stockholm Concert Hall on Monday, 30 May from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Journalists/photographers who wish to attend need to pre-register no later than 3:00 p.m. on 37 May. For accreditation, please contact stefan.zachrisson@kulturradet.se, or call +46 (0)76-540 10 08.

Pictures and high-resolution video from the ceremony will be published in the press room of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award later in the evening, along with excerpts from the laureate’s acceptance speech.

Eva Lindström (b. 1952) is a Swedish picture book artist. She has published some 35 solo titles and has illustrated many books by other authors. She writes stories that shift between the everyday and the existential, combining shrewd humour with absurd mystery. Her numerous children’s works have been honoured with many awards. She is a previous recipient of the August Prize as well as the Snöbollen Award for best Swedish picture book of the year (in 2011 and 2018). She is the creator of three animated short films, and a number of her books have been adapted for film.

Philomène Grandin is an actor and television presenter. She has acted in many movies and television shows as well as in stage productions at both the Stockholm and Gothenburg City Theatres. She is well-known as the host of the children’s televisions programs PhiloFix and Vintergatan. Philomène is also a veteran audiobook reader. Her memoir Glöm allt men inte mig was published in 2021.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. For two decades, the award has elevated and honoured some of the foremost figures in young people’s literature.
