EneCoat Technologies is a spin-off company from Kyoto University in January 2018, and we develop perovskite solar cells, regarded as the most promising next-generation solar cells. The company was launched with the full support of Kyoto University based on research seeds studied over several years by Wakamiya Laboratory at Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University.

  • Naoya Kato
    President / CEO

    Naoya Kato

    Graduated from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University.
    Engaged in a number of investment projects in real estate and business restructuring at a foreign investment bank.
    As a founding member of an independent PE fund, he experienced buyout investment.
    In November 2016, he joined Kyoto University's Incubation Program as the promotion manager.
    In January 2018, he co-founded Enecoat Technologies and assumed the representative director.

  • Atsushi Wakamiya
    Director / Chief Scientific Officer

    Atsushi Wakamiya

    Ph.D. in Engineering from the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University.
    Professor, Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University
    Specialized in materials chemistry and promoted development research of perovskite solar cells at JST-COI, ALCA, NEDO and other national projects.
    He has received many awards, including the Chemical Society of Japan Progress Award, the Commendation for Young Scientists by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Nozoe Memorial Encouragement Award, etc. In January 2018, he co-founded Enecoat Technologies and assumed the director.

  • Tamotsu Horiuchi
    Director / Chief Technology Officer R&D Supervisor

    Tamotsu Horiuchi

    Ph.D. in Biomolecular Engineering, Graduate School of Biomolecular Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology.
    Engaged in material development at a paper manufacturer and material and device development at an electrical equipment manufacturer. Specializes in organic synthetic chemistry and organic device development. He has published 8 peer-reviewed papers, one of which has been cited more than 1,300 times. He has obtained more than 120 patents in Japan and abroad.
    In March 2022, he assumed the director of Enecoat Technologies.

    Director / Lawyer

    Hiroaki Tanaka

    He received his Master's degree in Civil Law from Graduate School of Law, Waseda University.
    After working as a lawyer, he led many businesses investment and financing projects at a foreign and domestic investment bank.
    In May 2018, he assumed the director of Enecoat Technologies.

    Outside Director

    Osami Kono

    Graduated from the Department of Polymer Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University, and completed the Graduate School of Management and Policy Science, University of Tsukuba.
    General Manager, Business Planning Department and Investment Department, Innovation Capital Co., Ltd., Kyoto University.
    After working as a researcher at a chemical manufacturer, he joined Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. After working for Nikkei Business and Nikkei Net Business, he has worked on the Nikkei Biotech editorial department for 11 years. During this time, he covered universities, research institutes, companies, ministries, and regulatory authorities, and wrote about 3,000 articles.
    He joined Kyoto University Innovation Capital in April 2016, and assumed the outside director of Enecoat Technologies in December 2018.

    Takaki Demichi

    Graduated from Keio University Faculty of Commerce.
    SPARX Group Co., Ltd. Group Managing Executive Officer (current position), SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd. Managing Executive Officer General Manager of Next Generation Growth Investment Division (current position).
    After working for two domestic securities companies, Mr. Demichi was involved in establishing and managing multiple venture companies. He joined SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd. (currently SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd.) in 2007 where he was responsible for launching renewable energy infrastructure funds and unlisted corporate investment funds. He has also served as an outside director of multiple investment companies.
    In April 2022, he was appointed as the Outside Director of Enecoat Technologies.

    Hiroyuki Matsushita

    Graduated from Kyoto University, Department of Economics.
    After working for a major audit firm, he started his own business, providing accounting consulting services for listed companies, listing preparation services, and tax advisory services for small and medium-sized companies.
    In addition to consulting on accounting and taxation, he has performed a wide range of services including business planning, bank financing, and business succession.
    In December 2018, he was appointed as an auditor of Enecoat Technologies.

    General Manager of Development Department R&D Assistant Supervisor

    Shuhei Yamamoto

    Master's degree in Materials Engineering Science, Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University
    He was in charge of material, device and evaluation technique development and IP strategy activities for organic solar cell in a leading synthetic fiber manufacturer.
    In Enecoat technologies, he is in charge of development of fundamental technology and large-area coating method for Perovskite solar cells.

  • Hideki Kaneko
    General Manager of Production Department

    Hideki Kaneko

    Master's degree in Electronic Device Engineering, Nagaoka University of Technology
    At a major precision equipment manufacturer, he was responsible for the development of display products such as LCDs, touch panels and OLEDs, from development to mass production technology, and has created many new technologies.
    In Enecoat technologies, he is in charge of the development of production technology for perovskite solar cells.

  • Yasushi Hiroshima

    Yasushi Hiroshima

    Ph.D. in Energy Engineering, Nagaoka University of Technology.

    He was engaged in the development of thin film technologies and metal materials at a major heavy industry manufacturer. At a major precision equipment manufacturer, he was responsible for the development of high performance technology for thin film devices, the results of which were highly evaluated and awarded at international conferences.
    In Enecoat Technologies, he is in charge of the development of long-term reliability technology for perovskite solar cells and their degradation analysis.

    Ph.D, in Electronics Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University
    Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University
    Engaged in research and technology development, and overseas factory establishment for solar cells at a leading electronics manufacturer, as well as factory management for lithium-ion secondary batteries for automotive use. Also had a lot of experience in management tasks such as factory operations, cost management, product planning, and business planning.In Enecoat technologies, he is responsible for product planning and customer relations for Perovskite solar cells
