Kongsberg Maritime DP Digital Survey application

(CEST) 30 min Webinar
The offshore industry is undergoing a fundamental change through the digitalization of the major components of a DP system.

Digital technologies enable all DP sub-systems like power, propulsion, control, sensors and auxiliary equipment, to share data on a network. This data can be harvested and analyzed in a systematic and consistent way.

The IMO MSC.1/Circ.1580 requires an Annual survey for every DP vessel. Traditionally, this required the vessel to be off hire, and was a paper-based process with hand written notes. This paper describes the development of a DP Digital Survey application which will replace the traditional method while simultaneously lifting the quality and consistency of the DP Annual trials to an unprecedented level.

Collaboration between owner, equipment supplier and class society are of paramount importance while defining the stakeholder requirements for this advanced survey application. This paper will inform the offshore industry about two pilot projects which were executed in 2019. We will present the potential of the DP Digital Survey to execute incremental testing during non-productive time, reduce the overall costs of DP Annual trials and improve the competence of key DP personnel.

We will also present how these methods can be applied to other areas of the DP operation to enable safer and more efficient performance.
