EV Boost mobile charging system

We can get your stranded, out-of-charge electric vehicle going agaiin

EV Boost mobile charging system

We broke new ground in 2019 by developing the first lightweight, mobile electric vehicle (EV) charger capable of giving stranded out-of-charge vehicles enough power to get to a nearby charge point. Importantly, the RAC’s engine-driven system removes the need to carry heavy, bulky batteries that have to be recharged after each use. In early 2022 we began rolling out a faster 5kw charger.

Our technical team integrated a high output generator fitted to the latest, cleanest diesel engines in our standard patrol and Heavy Duty 4x4 vans. It's capable of charging 99% of all electric vehicles on the road today.

Many EVs can’t be towed normally and need to be transported with all wheels off the ground which usually requires a flatbed vehicle. So, if an electric vehicle runs out of charge in a busy urban location like red routes in London or even just a narrow road, it can be very problematic.

This enables our patrols to help stranded EV drivers at the roadside with a power boost, equivalent to a top-up from a fuel can for a petrol or diesel vehicle, to get them on their way again.

By the end of 2021, we will have more than 200 patrol vans across the country fitted with the EV Boost system and we will continue to add to this. In early 2022 we began rolling out a faster 5kw charger.
