Making Engineering Hot with AFBE-UK

On the 19th of November Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) will be ‘opening our doors’ and partnering with AFBE-UK (Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers) to give you an insight into our Engineering Function and showcase our 2021 Engineering Apprenticeship Programme!

We’re hosting an online event to give you an opportunity to hear from the team and learn more about our organisation and the career opportunities we offer. GTR is the largest train operating company in the UK, with more passengers, more employees and more trains than anyone else in the country.

As you can imagine, engineering is a major part of the business and we’re always on the lookout for our future stars. So, if you’re someone who likes to know how things work - taking them apart and putting them back together again - then the engineering life may be right for you. Our trains have all kinds of systems, electrical, mechanical, and modern computer control. If you have a passion for new technology and everything electrical, mechanical or engineering​, come explore what we’re all about.

We’re not looking for previous knowledge or experience of engineering, or the railway – just an open mind and lots of enthusiasm. We have range of internal volunteers who will be showcasing their experiences at GTR. The session will open with Dionne Mckenzie, Head of People ​in Engineering and HQ talking about “Making Engineering Hot”. Followed by Tom Jerome, Apprentice Development Manager giving us an insight into the programme.

You will then have an opportunity to take part in a Q&A session with team members within the function. So please have any burning questions ready! The session will finish with Steve Lammin, Engineering Director sharing a few closing words and talking about next steps.
