Change the way you see the world

About us

In 1896 we set out on a journey of exploration from our homeland in Norway. Driven by a passion to discover what lies beyond the horizon, we sailed in the wake of the pioneering seafarers who were redrawing the boundaries of our world. Today, we’re leaders in expedition cruising, taking you to those places that lure the curious traveller. Whether it’s spotting polar bears in the pristine landscapes of the Arctic, watching marine iguanas bask on the Galápagos Islands, or getting up close to Antarctica's penguins in our stylish, purpose-built expedition ships, a Hurtigruten Expedition brings you closer to a world of wonder. With onboard lectures and science centres, your expedition team will illuminate your mind with talks about history, culture, science and art, ensuring you return home with a deep understanding and love of the places you explore. Our mission is to be the world’s most sustainable expedition company. With the best ESG ranking of a cruise company by Morningstar Sustainalytics in 2023, we've led the industry by being the first to eliminate single-use plastics and heavy fuel oils, and our hybrid-powered cruise ships were a world first. Join us as we continue our journey to change the way you see the world.

  • Would you like to 🐋 name-a-whale 🐋? Happywhale's mission is to increase global understanding and caring for marine environments through high quality conservation science and education. With automated image recognition of humpback whales, their digital tools add fascinating depth to the sightings of citizen scientists – while enabling them to contribute meaningfully to global conservation. This is what has made them a perfect grant recipient from the Hurtigruten Foundation! When we identify a new or unnamed whale during an HX expedition, we can include the naming rights in our onboard Hurtigruten Foundation charity auction or raffle, with all proceeds benefiting Happywhale 🫶 You can learn more about their great work here: https://ow.ly/BUT050RIcLb 📷: Oscar Farrera

  • We're excited to unveil a new Norway Expedition for winter 2026, Ultimate Norway – Arctic Expedition Under the Northern Lights, set to launch in January 2026 at the peak of the aurora season. The expedition will explore four iconic regions in Northern Norway: the Lyngen Alps, Senja, Lofoten and Vesterålen, uncovering hidden gems in each during ten scheduled sailings from January to March 2026. Guests will delve deep into Norwegian culture and the spectacular winter landscapes through unique experiences such as a bonfire under the polar night, an exclusive evening at the Hurtigruten Museum in Stokmarknes, and a traditional Scandinavian sauna session followed by a polar plunge. • This #EarthDay we want to celebrate our guests who have helped us deliver pioneering research through Citizen Science initiatives.  By partnering with leading scientific institutions, our expert onboard scientists and our guests we have been able to contribute to significant research in Antarctica in 2023, specifically: - 23,600 data submissions have been made through Citizen Science projects - That data has supported 20 local and global projects - Leading to the publication of more than 87 articles, scientific reports and papers since 2019 Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our work, we look forward to continuing to pioneer a responsible approach to expedition cruising together.

  • Thank you to our guests who visited Antarctica in 2022 and 2023 and participated in our Citizen Science programmes ⭐ Together with scientists from Universidad de los Andes we've been able to collect samples enabling the analysis of environmental DNA (eDNA) from Antarctica, The Falkland Islands and South Georgia. These samples represent some of the first available information obtained from eDNA in these regions! Thanks to all our teams who contributed to this work - you can find out more about it here: https://lnkd.in/e7kXcCNA 📸: Ted Gatlin

  • 🚨 Adventure is all-inclusive with HX! 🚨 As part of a phased approach, starting with Antarctica & Galápagos expeditions departing in October 2024, we will be introducing an ‘all-inclusive’ offering as standard across the whole fleet from November 2024, covering all destinations. Alex Delamere-White, HX Chief Commercial Officer, states: “We want our guests to fully embrace being curious travellers when they’re with us. By making things as easy as possible, they can focus on exploring remote parts of the world and learning from our expert team. We believe adventure should be all-inclusive, which is why our daily expeditions, talks and access to the science centre come at no extra cost, alongside delicious food and drink.” *For full terms and to find out more see here:  https://ow.ly/2NcI50QUyGJ

  • Exciting times ahead! As we've previously shared today is finally the day that Hurtigruten Expeditions becomes HX. While the name and logo might be new, we remain the leader of expedition cruising and HX will continue to provide its guests with the same immersive small-ship experience deeply rooted in exploration with scientific research, expert-led lectures, and community advocacy at the heart of the experience. Hurtigruten Expeditions will therefore soon become HX Hurtigruten Expeditions. You might also see some of our other channels update in line with this exciting new direction! We hope you love our new look as much we do - let us know your thoughts ;)

  • 🙌🥇🙌 We're thrilled to have won the Cruise Critic Editors' Pick award for Best Science Offerings (Expedition Category).    In their own words: “Whether cruising in Antarctica or Alaska, HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) makes science the central focus of its expedition sailings. That’s evident on entering its ships: the state-of-the-art Science Center is the real atrium, greeting passengers and becoming a hotbed of activity throughout the sailing. With immersive programs like the Citizen Science Project, the expedition staff encourages passengers to participate in projects that contribute to long-term research.”   In 2024, our Science & Education program plans to donate over 1,500 cabins to researchers, support more than 30 projects (including 19 research projects from 12 renowned institutions and 11 citizen science projects), and facilitate 16,000+ data submissions. Discover more about the incredible science programs currently taking place aboard our ships in Antarctica here: https://lnkd.in/eEwdhq27
